Getting Started with Free Phone

1. How do I get help?

A short help about an item will appear (if available) in the bottom side of Free Phone whenever you place the mouse pointer on that item.

2. How do I specify an address?

Addresses can be specified in 2 ways:


a) address[/port][/ttl]

Valid examples are:
foo.inria.fr
host: foo.inria.fr, ports: 5004 and 5001
foo.domain.com/6000
host: foo.domain.com, ports: 6000 and 6001
138.96.24.78
host: 138.96.24.78, ports: 5004 and 5005
224.2.224.2/7000
multicast addr: 224.2.224.2, ports: 5004 and 5005, ttl: default (8)
224.3.4.5/64
multicast addr: 224.3.4.5, ports: 5004 and 5005, ttl: 64
224.8.7.8/7200/32
multicast addr: 224.8.7.8, ports: 7200 and 7201, tt: 32


b) user@address

Valid examples are:
avega@foo.inria.fr
Calls user: avega, host: foo.inria.fr
usr@foo.bar.com
Calls user: usr, host: foo.bar.com


3. How do I create a point to point (unicast) connection?

You can create unicast connections by specifying the address[/port] pair, either on the command line or (preferred) with the `Call' button, using address style (a).



4. How do I join a multicast group (an audioconference)?

If you want to join the audioconference held in the multicast address 224.5.6.7 with the ports 7500, 7501 and a TTL of 128, you must specify this address with the style (a), i.e. specify the address as:
224.5.6.7/7500/128

5. How do I call someone in the Internet?

If you want to call the user whose login name is `xxx' at the host yyy.inria.fr, use the address style (b), i.e. specify the address as:
xxx@yyy.inria.fr

6. How do I leave a session?

Just double click with Button-3 of your mouse on the address's session field.
